Ironically nicknamed ‘Shooter’ despite ranking fourth all-time in the NLL in assists, Sanderson dukes it out with his small 5-6, 160-pound frame. And he’s done a lot more than merely get by. In 2006, he led the entire league with 98 points, and last season, he followed that up by leading the Rock with 85 points. During his 10 seasons in the league, he’s compiled impressive totals of 250 goals and 469 assists. We asked Shooter to tell us how he prepares his Weapon of Choice.

HEAD
I’ve used an STX Profile for the last however-many years. I’ve used an X2 also. The profile is similar to the X2: it’s got a little pinch on it. I’ll use anything that’ll help me score more, so hopefully they’ll come out with one of those soon. … I pinched the last one a little but I don’t prefer that too much. I don’t doctor them up. There’s less room for looseballs or catching if you have a real tight pinch.

SHAFT
I use the RBK 7K shaft. I really like it. It’s pretty strong and light and holds up pretty well. I don’t do as much cross-checking as some guys, but with setting picks I tend to bend shafts sometimes so I usually go through two or three a year.

TAPE
I have a candy cane stripe all the way up the shaft. It’s a superstitious thing. In the summer, it’s so hot and humid it’s hard to get a grip so I did it then. I wouldn’t need it as much in the NLL since it’s not as hot and humid, but I’m superstitious so I tape it that way anyway.

SHOOTING STRINGS
I use a lot. I have six shooting strings. It’s one of those things where I got used to it so my cousin, who strings my sticks, just goes off the last one I used. The shooters are all right beside each other. I don’t like too many gaps at the top of the stick.

POCKET
My cousin strings it traditional for me. I’m bad with sticks so any stick I use I get him to do a traditional pocket. … It’s six diamonds, usually about a ball deep. I try to have the pocket right under the shooting strings so it rolls right into that spot when I catch it. If it’s too deep I can’t get passes off quickly enough. … I think traditional holds its pocket a little better than mesh and I’ve always used leather so I’m used to it. I’ve tried mesh but I can’t get used to it.
