IL’s January Issue Has Dropped
![]()
I hesitate to post this blog for two reasons. One, Brodie’s post was hilarious and I don’t want to bump it down a notch. It’s one of the more insightful, hysterical looks into a pro sports team that I’ve ever read. If you haven’t checked it out, read it to the end: the punch line is classic.
Two, I don’t want this site to become a shill for Inside Lacrosse Magazine (well, I do but I know that’s not smart). But given that our NLL Preview Issue just came out, I’d be crazy not to drop it on you guys now that it’s available.
We chose to focus on Casey Powell as our cover story. The progress he’s made in the NLL has been incredibly impressive. Let’s be honest, if he can turn a guy like Pat Coyle into a fan, he’s made some progress. If Casey hadn’t have missed the final three games of last season, he would have topped 100 points. That’s pretty elite territory.
You’ve already read Shanny’s preseason Power Rankings and awards, but there is much more to our team capsules that you’ll read in the coming weeks leading up to the season. (We’ll also lay out our preseason Players’ Survey and our first-ever Dance Team Survey.)
We got Chris Hall and an East coach to break down each team’s power play, and we did in-depth scouting reports on everyone, straight from the NLL’s top GMs and coaches.
NLLInsider’s Steve Kojima did an intriguing look back at the NLL CBA negotiations (check out all of InsideLacrosse.com’s coverage of the scenario here — I heard from multiple players and coaches that our incessant coverage helped push the negotiations forward).
We also had Toronto’s Josh Sanderson tell us about his Weapon of Choice, a regular mag segment where a player breaks down how he likes his stick — from whip to tape to shooting strings (six, by the way).
And speaking of Brodie, Reebok drops a new Merrill poster on you, for free. Just flapping in our pages.
Andrew Lupton of the National Post dug deep to look back at last year’s mammoth Colin Doyle trade to San Jose, so look for that next week as well.
We sat John Christmas of the Philadelphia Wings down to talk about everything from his favorite movie of all-time (Rushmore) to how he’s adjusted to the NLL in our monthly Shooting from the Hip segment.
Oh yeah, and we found Big Foot. He’s alive and well at Rexall Place.
