Opening Night
I don’t think that I could have scripted a more perfect way to ring in the 2007/2008 National Lacrosse League season if I had written the schedule myself. Not only do we get to travel to my favorite U.S. city but we get to battle our beloved Mammoth in front of 18 or 19,000 crazy fans screaming obscenities at us.
Let’s not forget about the couple of guys that always seem to end up right behind our bench spewing verbal diarrhea for sixty straight minutes. Reminding me and my teammates how much we suck and pointing out each of our mistakes for us. I love those guys!!
But to be honest, that is what playing in a road barn is all about. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t enjoy a nice hostile road tilt. There are only a few things in life that are more satisfying than walking out of a sold out Pepsi Center with a hard fought “W.” The only problem with that is Colorado has a great squad and home losses are few and far between.
Even though a few of our personal favorite Mammoth players are missing (Jalbert, Hanford, Stilley), I don’t think there will be any love lost between the two teams. Both lineups are essentially showcasing their skills to new coaching staffs and trying to prove that they should be an every-game fixture. I know that our team had some guys unhappy to be left at home this weekend and would be more than willing to fill in for Game 2 if someone didn’t come to play.
And if you have ever met Troy or Terry there will be no shortage of intensity on the floor. It’s gonna be a war!
What can you expect?
With their ridiculous athleticism (Jason Wulder excluded … just kidding), and our aggressive in your face style of play, it’s going to be a run-and-gun affair with tons of chances each way. Let’s hope that the boys stayed in shape over the Christmas break. I know it can be hard. But thanks to some e-mailed workout and nutrition tips from Steve “Chugger” Dietrich I think I am ready to go.
My Prediction: Yeah right!! Do you really think I am going to give them that for the bulletin board?
