Rock reviewing incident, Swarm have no comment
Although there was a bit of interaction with media on Friday night, both the Toronto Rock and Minnesota Swarm have ultimately decided to stay pretty silent in regards to the altercation between Rock Head Coach Glenn Clark and Swarm forward Sean Pollock.
Although Toronto’s Director of Lacrosse Operations, Mike Kloepfer, spoke with the National Post on the issue, stating he felt that, “There is no reason for a member of the Minnesota Swarm to be approaching a member of the Toronto Rock in that situation,” the Rock did forward the following statement to NLL Insider earlier this morning:
“After the game Friday night, a Minnesota player Sean Pollock and our Toronto Rock coach Glenn Clark were involved in an altercation in the corridor leading to our dressing room. Currently our organization along with the National Lacrosse League is reviewing the incident.” - Mike Kloepfer
NLL Insider has also learned from various sources close to the situation that the Rock may be looking into charges against Pollock. What exactly those potential legal charges are though is still very much unclear, but may come down as early as this afternoon.
Several sources have said that Pollock did not retaliate after the altercation and that Minnesota Head Coach Duane Jacobs was forced to diffuse the situation by pulling Clark off of Pollock, also not striking the Toronto Head Coach. ACC security was present in the hallway that the incident occurred in, but were nothing more than spectators while the altercation went from verbal jarring to the assault which allegedly took place.
Sources have told NLL Insider that Pollock did not pursue charges on Friday night; however, police did take statements from witnesses and those involved. It is still very much unclear if any charges have or will be filed by either side, but due to the fact there was bodily harm, Pollock was allegedly cut, authorities may be pursuing the incident no matter what either party’s stance on the situation is.
The Minnesota Swarm, who NLL Insider attempted to talk to earlier today, have declined comment on the situation.
As mentioned in our report yesterday, the NLL is already reviewing the incident and a decision that will be ultimately handed down by Commissioner Jim Jennings will likely be made by Wednesday of this week.
It is also expected that Toronto Rock forward Ryan Benesch and Minnesota Swarm defender Travis Hill will also face some type of league discipline for high hits during the Friday night tilt. Rock defender Cam Woods and Swarm D-man Ryan Sharp also may be looking at some type of suspension or fine as well.
Many team officials from the league’s other ten clubs NLL Insider has spoken to feel a lengthy suspension for Clark would be the right call. The league however is holding off on any comment until their final decision is made at the conclusion of their review.
