An OT Thriller
I’ve seen alot of lacrosse games in my life, but I may have witnessed the best one I’ve ever seen this past weekend in Calgary. Two teams, back and forth, put on a show that was thrilling.
From the time we arrived in Calgary, you could feel the electricity in the air. I wasn’t even going to be in the lineup this weekend and I was getting nervous and anxious for the game to start. It was like something that I’ve never experienced before.
Going to the game at the Saddledome, you could see how differently some guys act before the game. For example, Colin Doyle seemed very relaxed before the game, or maybe it was just because he had on the only pair of Under Armour dress pants in the world. Whereas a guy like Luke Wiles was nervous about his stick being legal, but he assured us it was. Good call, Luke. It’s a good thing Chugger respects his shot (a little inside joke for the Stealth players).
As the game rolled on, we had our ups and downs as a team. We got a lead, but then dug ourselves into a hole at the half. But the second half belonged to us. It started with a faceoff win by Tim “The Beast” Booth and that snowballed into some sick goals.
It’s hard to pinpoint the time where we took the game back. It could have been Jeff “Poutine” Zywicki’s diving goal from behind the net, or Wiles’ goal that ripped a hole in the net, or maybe it was just Steve Panarelli’s red and black old school hightops with the pumps that he was wearing, but something just seemed to spark us to play the way we did.
When the OT winner went in, the air seemed to be let out of the Saddledome. We were estatic that we won. A hard-fought OT battle between two teams, a great weekend, and a win for the Stealth.
It doesnt get much better than that.
