Love and Lacrosse are in the Air
I know I should be doing game reviews and game previews leading up to this weekend’s matchup in the Wacho Center in Philly for the Knighthawks, but the pros have taken great care of that so far this week.Â
Next week, I’ll jump on my soapbox from the stands and give you my thoughts on the games I’ve seen and look forward to this season.
This week I’m going to touch on something that I’m not sure how many people really see going on around the sport of lacrosse off the field. Our little community is growing and as it grows, it is sprouting up some interesting relationships among fans.Â
As I take a step back and try to look at the whole picture, I’m amazed at how many examples I see of lacrosse truly bringing people together.Â
I’m not talking just to hoist a pint together at the post-game parties, I’m talking about actually dating and marriage. Now, we all know lacrosse is addictive as a fan, and who better to share your life with than someone with the same passion for the sport as you have.
I’ve got a perfect couple of examples starting with my own. My wife, Jennifer Knab, found me on a lacrosse message board when she lived in Miami, Fla., and contacted me. Two years later we were married after she moved back to Rochester and became a rabid Knighthawks fan like me. Danielle Cadieux in Philadelphia currently makes the 10-hour trip to spend as much time as possible with her Toronto boyfriend, Wayne Duclos and he drives the same distance to Philly.Â
Wings and Rock fans living in harmony, what the hell has this world come to? Hahaha.
Want to take it a step farther? How about Dave Grieco, a Rochester native moving to Philadelphia a few years to be with his fiancee, Sheryle Reynolds? They have an October 2009 wedding date set, NLL off-season of course. Haha.
Again, a diehard Knighthawks fan that is marrying a Wings fan. All of these relationships were formed by NLL fans going on roadtrips. Now, I’m not saying EHarmony needs to log onto NLL.com, but if you’re a single lacrosse fan, don’t be surprised if your next relationship is waiting for you in a NLL city just a roadtrip away.  If you think it is limited to just the fans, take a look Portland’s way.
