Clark says books closed, needs to clean up Rock O

In the wake of today’s ruling by the NLL, lifting Toronto Rock Head Coach Glenn Clark’s indefinite suspension for an incident on January 11 between Clark and Minnesota Swarm forward Sean Pollock, the Rock held a media conference call today at 4PM to discuss the league’s decision.

The call began with the Rock explaining that Clark or Rock Director of Lacrosse Operations Mike Kloepfer would not be discussing what actually occurred on the night in question and would also not be fielding any questions in regards to the specifics of the probation the NLL also handed down to Clark earlier today that would stretch into the 2009 season.

To say taking those topics off the table silenced the crowd would be an understatement, as media on the call seemed unsure of what to even ask the two Rock figureheads, with several long silent stretches making up a bulk of the call.

Clark did say however; “I am very excited that this is all over and now we can get back to the business of lacrosse.”

“It’s been a difficult month. There’s been a lot going on and it’s taken a toll in a lot of different ways. It’s just nice that we can finally put it past us and solely concentrate on the success that we want on the floor. I’m glad this distraction has been eliminated for now and we’re just excited that we don’t have to dispense energy focusing on this anymore.”

When asked of his thoughts of what the Rock have looked like on the floor while he’s been serving his suspension, Clark answered, “We’ve been a little disappointed in how we’ve performed offensively and we see that as our biggest challenge right now.”

“Obviously two four goal games is not acceptable. Right now we’re trying to figure out how we can deliver on some more offensive successes.”

The Rock are coming off a weekend that saw them only muster up four goals against the Rochester Knighthawks, a franchise low which they had actually first set about a month back when they lost to Minnesota with the same 11-4 score-line the Hawks also handed them this past Saturday night.

And when Clark was asked about what lesson might be learned from this whole ordeal, Clark responded to the Canadian Press question by saying, “It’s a passionate game.”

“I think the moral is that you’ve gotta be very careful because you can’t put yourself in harms way. You have to be very careful to avoid these types of situations. Anyone that has been around competitive sports for a long time knows that the game is performed by passionate people and sometimes those passions get the better of us. The lesson I learned is that you really have to be careful not to put yourself in that position. You really have to be aware of what the potential pitfalls can be.”

Glenn ended the call by saying, “From a legal and league standpoint, the book is closed.”

“Now it’s time to move forward.”

Toronto plays the Buffalo Bandits at home on Friday night, marking Clark’s comeback to the Rock bench, mere steps away from where this entire ordeal began just 30 days ago in the back halls of the ACC. It appears for now however, until one side openly speaks about the incident, we’ll never truly know what actually took place.
