Nikki vs. Alanna

There was a time in the world of sport when cheerleaders on the floor meant it was time for a break. Beer run, bathroom run, whatever. There was nothing to keep you in your seat.

My, how times have changed.

In our beloved National Lacrosse League, we don’t have cheerleaders, per se. We have dance teams, or performance teams. And we look. Yes, we do. We even think we’re the master of cover-up when we sneak peaks at the dancers while sitting next to our girlfriends at the games … because the last thing we want it to get caught looking, right? But as we all know, she knows. We don’t know how she knows, but she knows.

Well, here’s your chance to look and be helpful while looking. It’s the perfect setup to avoid that “Whatever!” look from your woman because you’re doing a service when you look and cast a vote for your favorite NLL Girls.

What we’re doing is taking each NLL Girl of the Week and putting them up against each other. We’ll list some of their interests (and pics), take some guesses (and post pics), critique their wardrobe (and post pics), and give you their phone numbers … kidding! (but we’re not kidding about posting pics). Get the picture?

Our first matchup puts Nikki of the Chicago Shamrox up against Alanna of the Rochester Knighthawks.

Cast your vote today, because this poll closes Friday at midnight.

NLL Girl of the Week Matchup 1

What you need to do is click on the “read more” tag, check out the credentials and cast your vote. It’s as simple as it sounds and you really have no excuse, unless she’s standing over your shoulder right now. But then again, we all know you’re reading this at work anyway.

Nikki is a dancer, we get that, and it’s not because half the movies she lists as her favorites have dancing themes. She’s sportin’ the silver bikini in one particular photo on her NLL profile page and with her jet-black hair, it makes us think she harbors dreams of being with the NFL’s Raiders. They’re the bad boys of the NFL, so this may not be such a horrible thing, right? Especially when she notes on the team page that her favorite part of being with the Shamrox is “dancing with a group of fun and crazy girls.” Interpret that how you may, but at least keep it in mind when voting, boys. We want well-rounded winners, right?

If anything, be sure to check out Nikki’s profile page. Yeah, she’s a student at DePaul and yeah, she wants to be a teacher. But there’s one interesting photo on her page where she shares space with fellow Shamrox dancers and it’s … well, it’s tough to tell exactly what they’re doing. Our guess is they’re showing us what a four-leaf clover might look like. And in these days of political correctness, it’s nice to see the girls in this photo embracing diversity: there’s a blonde, a redhead, a brunette and Nikki with her jet-black hair. Very nice.

Alanna is in her third year with the Knightingales and it’s pretty apparent she knows where the tanning booth is in Rochester. Anyone who knows Rochester knows that’s not a natural tan because there’s basically a two-week window where there’s sun AND warmth. At the same time. She tells us on her Knightingales bio page that she’s been a competitive dancer for 11 years, including a stint with the “Moscow City Ballet Russian Nutcracker.” Ouch. Why do we wince whenever that particular event is mentioned?

If you take close look at her NLL profile page, you’ll see she’s friends with Nikki. Hmmm … some sort of conspiracy here? Are they forming some sort of “Survivor” alliance? Can we give dancers that much credit? Just kidding, Alanna. Dancers take a bum rap when it comes to battling the ditzy cheerleader stereotype and besides, any woman who lists prime rib as her favorite meal is just fine by us.
