Trinaistich relieved of assignments previous to standoff

NLL Insider has learned that NLL referee and Halton Region police officer Mark Trinaistich was indeed relieved of all of his assignments for the remainder of the season by the National Lacrosse League well before last Friday’s standoff with police.

Trinaistich was relieved of his reffing duties this season  shortly after his performance during a February 10th game between the New York Titans and Buffalo Bandits at Madison Square Garden.

The poorly reffed game, which Trinaistich was an assistant referee in, saw 22 total power play opportunities, 28 total penalties called and a controversial OT penalty call that would later result in a power play winning goal for the Titans.

Sources tell NLL Insider that players and other team officials from both teams were absolutely livid about a number of calls made during the game by Trinaistich, resulting in a slew of complaints to the league, who also had front office staff on hand at the game.

The NLL has confirmed with NLL Insider that Trinaistich was relieved shortly after the game at MSG and that the decision was made strictly based on his current on-floor performances. The league has no other comments on any news related to Trinaistich at this time.

One unnamed player told NLL Insider in a recent player poll based on refereeing in the NLL that, “He (Mark Trinaistich) made a total joke of the New York/Buffalo game,” when asked who they felt was the league’s worst current official.
