There’s a new energy in Calgary

You’ve got TK back, you’ve got 18,000-plus fans packed into your building, and you’ve got a very realistic shot at a first-round home playoff game.

Calgary’s a-buzzin’, and the rodeo ain’t even in town. (Is it?)

We could probably make as much fun as we want about Calgary and the cowboys with belt buckles as big as license plates, but why should they care what we think? They’ve got one of the NLL’s top offensive weapons back from injury in Tracey Kelusky, the fuel that pumps up a loyal base of fans who can just about taste a home playoff game with the way things are shaping up out West.

“We’re still waiting on Chugger (goalie Steve Dietrich and his concussion) and he will be a big piece of the puzzle, but I’m confident he will be back soon as well, ” Kelusky told SLAM! Sports. ”We’re getting into no-excuse mode with guys coming back. This is the hand we were dealt, so now we’re playing it.”

The Riggers (4-6) have six games left, five against West foes. And with the current freefall of the Colorado Mammoth, the Roughnecks are now just two games out of first place, giving them new hope for a shot to clinch a home playoff game. And with 18,000-plus out for the last game (yeah, we know tickets were free), who can blame the Riggers for being comfortable at home?
