Expect the unexpected in the NLL

These are the reasons we drink. Alcohol, that is.

Check it: Week 13 of the National Lacrosse League gets started with Thursday’s surprising score in Portland, with the Lumberjax popping the first-place Mammoth in the West.

On Friday, Toronto cruises past Edmonton and it looks like we’re back to normal, right? Wrong. Saturday rolls around and before we can even drink, er, eat dinner, San Jose punks Calgary and all of a sudden, we’ve got a tie for first place in the West with the Stealth and the Mammoth!

It gets better … On the East coast, the Rock bust up Buffalo to move into third place in the East, and the Titans not only defeat the first-place Wings, they throttle ‘em by seven goals. The best for last, though, is the stunner in Rochester. The defending champion Knighthawks lose to the Chicago Shamrox, in Rochester, for their second straight loss. And not only is it their second straight loss, those two losses have come against teams with the two worst records in our beloved NLL.

It’s enough to drive a prognosticator to the bar, but you know what it really means. It means we’ve got one helluva season unfolding in the NLL and with every single team still alive for a postseason berth, it also means you better not miss a single game down the stretch.
