‘Lacrosse is our killer’
Part of the challenge of these mid-week reports is finding National Lacrosse League news. Fresh news, that is. We’re a couple of days removed from the past weekend’s games and a few days before the upcoming weekend, so there ain’t a lot out there. That doesn’t help my 9 a.m. deadline, though, and there are days I’m really scramblin’ to drop new knowledge on ya.
And just as I’m thinking that this morning’s unusual quiet is just the calm before the trade deadline storm, along comes this little nugget: A baseball coach admits lacrosse is hurting his game. Down in Australia, some baseball team is trying to advance to another level of the club hierarchy but the under-16 club has run into a bit of a problem.
“Lacrosse is our killer,” said Mick Hurstfield, secretary of the Williamstown Wolves, told the Maribyrong Leader. ”We’ve got a number of juniors who are state and national lacrosse players and (their) commitments are to lacrosse in the summer months, getting ready for national and world titles.”
Now, I understand that this is hardly earth-shattering news, but how can this not make ya at least flash a smile outta your coffee-pumped eyeballs this morning?

There’ll be plenty of harder news to come throughout the day as inevitable deals are announced, and Tutka’s getting us started with some juicy trade news. But until those deals are announced, just let this little lacrosse victory in Australia get your day off to a good start. And if that’s not good enough for ya, go ahead and catch up on what happened over the wild weekend, like New York’s win over Philly, with the NLL recap.
