Scott Self stays in Chi-Town, Asking price too high

If you had to pick one name at the start of the week that you just knew was gonna get moved before yesterday’s trade deadline, it had to be Chicago Shamrox defender Scott Self.
Self, an Arizona Sting “rental player” whose rights will revert back to the currently on the shelf franchise once the 2008 season is put to bed, was playing on the lone team that is all but officially outta the mix for a post-season spot this year.
Although he’s one of the game’s top pure D guys, Chicago keeping him meant that not only would his talents be wasted come playoff time, but the franchise would have nothing to show for him once his rights got swapped over again, unless of course they moved him yesterday.
NLL Insider learned from various sources that Chicago GM and Head Coach Jamie Batley did in fact have Self’s name on the block, but his asking price was way too high for any team that were looking to add a vet defender for a playoff push.
Batley was apparently asking for nothing less than a first round draft pick in either the 2008 or 2009 Entry Draft. Sources tell us that no team was biting or willing to give up their coveted first round pick for a player that would only play a handful of games for them.
Self will obviously now remain with the Shamrox for the rest of the 2008 season, but as stated, will no longer be Chicago property once the season is done.
Batley had previously dealt Arizona “rental player” Lindsday Plunkett to Edmonton a few weeks back for conditional third round picks in both the 2008 and 2009 Entry Draft.
Chicago plays host to the Minnesota Swarm this Saturday night.
