In and out and back in the line-up, by Rob Van Beek

Well they asked me back to have another go at ‘er, so here I am. I have to apologize from the start of round two because I thought I had more in mind for this blog but time sneaks up on you. As most of you know we play the Rochester Knighthawks this weekend and originally I was not in the line-up for health and coaching reasons, but with some last minute changes to the line-up I am back in! So with that sudden change, in a matter of seconds my weekend went from doing a motocycle riders course and going out with friends to getting my game face ready and packing my bags.

I have to admit it was a suprise to me. I had talked to coach earlier in the week and he had said they just wanted to change something up for the weekend and that I would be back in the line up the following week. Seeing as how I had injured myself the weekend before I thought I was okay with it and just thought if this is what it takes to win then so be it.

As the week went on there were some ups and downs. Obviously I was pissed at first and the fact it was the first game I would have missed since my rookie season didnt help it any, haha. But thats just being a b*tch about the whole thing. It’s what’s best for the team and if coach does something he has a reason behind it.

The upside to not being in the lineup was that it opened up the door for me to do a riders safety course that I have been trying to do for awhile now but couldn’t because of lacrosse. As soon as I complete the course I get a new Harley Davidson to ride for the rest of my time in Philly until I head back home to Canada for summer ball. So needless to say I thought that maybe not being in the line-up and being able to do the course was a blessing in disguise and then wouldn’t you know it, the craziest thing happened during my course last night: I got the call from coach telling me I was back in the lineup.

For a moment I was kinda like, damn, my bike! Then I was pumped and excited. Coach still knows I am injured but we’re going to see how things are when it comes to game time. A great coach once told me that “pain is temporary, but pride is forever.” Kind of cheesy but it has helped me along the way.

So I explained my situation to the people at the bike shop and they are going to help me work around this and I will still be riding my new hog by sometime next week! I guess I ended up with the best of both worlds this weekend, I’m back in the lineup and I have my bike all lined up. Well that is going to be all from me tonight, I need to get some rest for the game tomorrow. I guess by the time you get this it will be game day. Sorry to just cut you off and run out the door in a hurry but I promise I will call, and yes I have your number, don’t worry, haha.

Peace

P.S. I forgot the word count…I was too tired. Someone let me know how we made out this time.
