Like brother, like NLL brother

Mike Carnegie has 3 points this season, the same total as his brother Scott. Nothing to really make Calgary fans forget Kaleb Toth, Tracey Kelusky or Curt Malawsky.

Mike has 32 loose balls, a little more than twice the number of Scott and that’s about all that jumps out at ya on their National Lacrosse League stat sheets, but cut ‘em some slack. They’re defensemen first and foremost and they understand their roles.

But above all, they’re also brothers and they’re playing a game they love. They don’t want it any other way.

“It’s pretty rewarding,” Mike, 24, the older of the two Carnegie brothers, tells their hometown London Free Press. “Not too many people get to say they play professional sports with their siblings. That alone is pretty special. We’re close.”

Sure, the NLL has the Powell brothers, the Merrill brothers and the Malawsky brothers among others. The Malawskys ran together for a bit with the Rochester Knighthawks, but what the Carnegies are doing is something they’ve done practically their entire lives. Through football, hockey and lacrosse, they’ve been together for as long as they can remember and both are loving life as undrafted free agents with the Riggers.

“It’s exciting,” Scott said. “Playing in front of thousands of fans, that’s something you never get growing up. The money’s not there yet, but it’s not about the money. You just want to play the game.”
