Mammoth clinch NLL playoff berth

The Colorado Mammoth walked away singing the praises of Nash, while the Rochester Knighthawks are gnashing their teeth over a season that could very well be lost.

Gee Nash was practically unbeatable Thursday night for the Mammoth, making 46 saves in an 11-8 National Lacrosse League victory over the visiting Rochester Knighthawks to help the Mammoth clinch a playoff berth. Nash rose up when he was needed most, too. He made 17 of his saves in the fourth quarter for the Mammoth, who limped into Thursday’s game with 4 losses in their last 5 games. But Nash and his D came through, holding the Knighthawks to a season-low 8 goals to put the defending champs a full two games in back of the fourth and finals playoff spot in the East Division.

“We needed it,” Nash told The Rocky Mountain News. “We needed it from myself to the ‘D’ guys to the transition guys - we had a great transition game - and our offense put the ball in the net when they were supposed to.”

Balance was the order on offense for Colorado, which got four points each from Brian Langtry, Gavin Prout, Jamie Shewchuk and Jason Wulder.

John Grant notched 4 goals for Rochester, and Shawn Evans and Ken Millin each has 4-point nights, but the Knighthawks are on the ropes. With 4 games left, all against teams with winning records, the Knighthawks have some serious ground to make up and not a lot of time left if they want a shot to defend their NLL title.
