Top 10 NLL Rookies: Week 15

Providing a quick rookie rankings this week as not much changed over the weekend, despite some crazy lacrosse where as Tutka noted yesterday, nine of the twelve teams posted wins.

Just one new addition to our Top 10. The No. 1 seed? It’s still Jordan Hall.

It is interesting to note as well, Hall is Top 20 in the league in points and loose balls. Only four other players are in that category: Jeff Zywicki, John Grant Jr, Athan Iannucci and Mark Steenhuis.

Anyway, here are your Top 10 Rookies after Week 15 in the NLL.

1 (1) Jordan Hall, New York – After seven points in his previous game, Hall was held to one goal, three points in a loss last weekend. He still deserves the top seed for reasons already noted.

2 (2) Craig Point, Minnesota – Just one goal, two points last weekend. Minny still won though and he’s still Top 15 in goals scored.

3 (5) Bobby McBride, Chicago – Two goals including the OT winner plus 10 gbs, after five points and eight gbs the week prior. Should be named NLL rookie of the week.

4 (3) Tyler Codron, Portland – Looks small out there with the size of Portland’s guys but continues to log valuable minutes and produce with two points and nine gbs over the weekend.

5 (4) Brandon Swamp, Buffalo – Steady performer and decent skills in transition, tallied another point and five gbs last weekend. Coincidence, probably, but the Bandits have won their last five with Swamp in the line-up. Schmelzle did not play.

6 (6) Kyle Ross, Minnesota – Quick comeback to play and collect six gbs after dealing with a serious injury the weekend prior. Gritty stuff.

7 (8) Merrick Thomson, Philadelphia – Picked up five goals and nine points over the weekend. He’s got a cannon. Can he find that early season form again?

8 (7) Jaime Rooney, Philadelphia – Two goals, five points on the weekend. The Wings will be hoping for more of his clutch goals down the stretch, starting this weekend.

9 (9) Mitch Belisle, New York – May still need some time to fully transition to boxla, but there’s a reason he was named the NCAA’s best defender last year.

10 (NR) Pete Jacobs, Portland – What a rocket shot he scored on while on a ‘Jax power last weekend. Picked up four points in the win too. Edges out teammate Cory Conway for the last spot on our Top 10 this week.

We’ve seen rookies contribute big over the last 15 NLL Weeks, and you can bet, going into these final three weekends of play, teams will now be relying on production from their young first-year players. Who’s going to have the biggest impact down the stretch?
