Buffalo Bandits clinch playoff spot with win, Swarm in despite loss
The Buffalo Bandits downed the Chicago Shamrox 13-9 last night to secure themselves a trip to the postseason. The win was locked up in the second and third quarters, where the Bandits outscored the Shamrox 10-2.
Mark Steenhuis and Mike Accursi had four goals each while John Tavares pitched in with one goal, six assists and Ken Montour made 40 saves, including 24 in the pivotal second and third quarters. For the Shamrox, Jonas Derks had two goals and two assists and Cody Jacobs added one and three. The Shamrox are officially eliminated from the playoff race.
The Minnesota Swarm also clinched a playoff spot last night, despite losing to the Rochester Knighthawks 11-8. The win keeps the Knighthawks alive in the battle for the postseason.
Heading into the third quarter tied 6-6, the Knighthawks outscored the Swarm 5-2 in the second half to lock up the win, with John Grant scoring twice in the first five minutes of the third to take the lead. Scott Evans led the Knighthawks with four goals and one assist while Shawn Evans had three and one and Shawn Williams added six helpers. Pat O’Toole made 32 saves in the win.
For the Swarm, Andy Secore and Dan Marohl had two goals each and Nick Patterson made 44 saves.
