K-hawks about to land new owner

We’re still a couple of months away from finding out for sure, but the groundwork is down for the Rochester Knighthawks to haveĀ a new majority owner.

As our Paul Tutka reported at the end of March, it looks like Curt Styres of Six Nations is gonna own a 60 percent share of the ‘Hawks. Just yesterday, the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester reported that the American Hockey League approved Styres’ bid to purchase majority ownership of the Rochester Americans hockey team. Part of that purchase deal is majority ownership of the Knighthawks. The National Lacrosse League board of governors doesn’t meet until June, at which time a vote could be taken.

The good news for Knighthawks fans is that this transaction could very well answer the stability question that’s been lingering for a few months now. Should Styres get the approval he needs from the NLL, the next big hurdle is negotiating a lease with the city of Rochester to play at Blue Cross Arena. The current lease expires on June 30.
