Casey Powell signs with MSL’s Six Nations Chiefs

NLL Insider has learned that the MSL’s Six Nations Chiefs have inked American lacrosse icon, Casey Powell, to a contract that will have him in a Chiefs’ sweater this summer.
Powell is fresh off one of his most dominating NLL seasons to date, once again solidifying himself as one of the elite box lacrosse players on the planet today.
“Arguably the best outdoor lacrosse player in the world, Casey has developed into one of the premier box lacrosse players in today’s game,” said Six Nation’s GM Duane Jacobs. “We look forward to Casey helping our team in our quest for the Mann Cup.”
Powell had been slagged by box purist for years after his brief exit from the NLL in 2000, but after solid seasons playing for the Anaheim Storm and MVP caliber runs the past two winters with the New York Titans, very few in the game doubt whether the field lacrosse legend can hang in the box game.
Powell actually played in Canada once before, as an 18 year old with the Toronto Beaches in 1994, one of the first Americans of this generation to try his hand playing Junior lacrosse in Canada.
“I’m excited about playing summer ball in Canada again,” said Powell. “It has been 14 years since I played Junior for the Toronto Beaches and I am thrilled to get the opportunity to play for Duey Jacobs and Jeff Dowling (Head Coach).”
Powell will also obviously spend time with the MLL’s Rochester Rattlers this summer as well, who kick-off their season this weekend against the Long Island Lizards.
Six Nations starts their run for a Mann Cup a week later on May 24th against the Brampton Excelsiors, who in recent weeks announced the return of both Colin Doyle and Dan Dawson to their lineup.
