“Real” or not, Bandits eye NLL title
Earlier this week, someone in Buffalo asked if it’d be a “real championship” if the Buffalo Bandits won the National Lacrosse League’s Champion’s Cup game on Saturday night.

Answer? When you start getting ink from alternative newspapers in your community, it’s very real. That’s what’s going on today in Buffalo, where fans can find a really nice read in Artvoice to get ready for Saturday’s title game at HSBC Arena against the Portland LumberJax. “Wouldn’t it be nice to have one chance, just one, to honk our car horns in jubilation, dance in the streets, and cheer to our hearts content as a Buffalo team brings home the hardware?” writes Andrew Kulyk and Peter Farrell. Conversations with Mark Steenhuis, John Tavares and Darris Kilgour clue us in on what the Bandits are doing to prepare for the game, and Kilgour even lets us know who’s gonna start in goal.
We love any pub our game gets, but it’s especially cool to find it in media outlets that surprise us. This isn’t a knock on the alternative publications out there, but we all know what these papers are like. They pay attention to nothing but film festivals, fancy restaurants and politics. And you know the only time you read them is when you’re in the laundromat and you’ve read all the soap box labels and you’re bored outta your skull.
My point? When papers like this are paying attention to ya, it’s real. And it’s spectacular.
