New York Titans nailed with some hefty suspensions

Although it went a bit under the radar with all of this week’s Champion’s Cup hype, the NLL handed down a number of suspensions to players from the New York Titans yesterday.

The multi-game sit-downs stem from altercations in the Titans’ 19-12 loss to the Buffalo Bandits in the East Division Final last weekend. It was a game in which both teams accumulated a total of 130 PIM, most of which came from a heated fourth period.

The league has suspended Rory Smith for two games for leaving the penalty box while serving a previous penalty and also for getting nailed with a game misconduct. Jamie Hanford is also looking at two games for physical abuse of an official and a game misconduct call. And finally Pat Merrill finishes off the game misconduct hat-trick and is starring at a one game sit-down for his actions in the loss.

Chicago’s Drew Candy was also given a two game suspension earlier this month after the Shamrox’s end of season loss to the Minnesota Swarm. Candy was disciplined for receiving his second instigator game misconduct this season and for receiving a game misconduct in his team’s last game. Sources say that Candy has already appealed the suspension.
