CLA Power Rankings : Week 2

senioraranks.jpg

There’s already a new team at the top of the rankings and its the Brampton Excelsiers. It’s looking like the East will be very competitive this year as 7 of the first 9 games are within 3 goals. St. Regis is continuing to make big moves as they steal Mark Steenhuis from Barrie. Peterborough is still trying to put their roster together and Six Nations might be joining the battle for the top 4 spots. I also have to mention that a bunch of young guys in Kitchener surprised me with an impressive 2-0 start last weekend (including a 7-5 victory over the Lakers).

In the West its starting to look like 2 definite groupings. Vic, New West and Coquitlam are the contenders. Maple Ridge, Burnaby and Nanaimo are the bottom dwellers and Langley is the young team somewhere in between , hoping to prove they belong with the big boys. After this weekend we’ll definitely get a more definitive look at who deserves to be ranked as the top West team.

Team Record This week Last week comment
Brampton Excelsiors 3-0 1 2 Even without Doyle and Brodie Merrill, they win tough road game (6-4) against St. Regis.
St. Regis Indians 2-2 2 3 Are these guys loading up or what? Tavares, Toll, Iannucci and now Steenhuis. They look like an NLL allstar team.
Peterborough Lakers 1-2 3 1 Still don’t have their Mann Cup team back together. Probably too early to be concerned (just ask Rochester).
Victoria Shamrocks 4-0 4 4 Last week off, but look who’s coming up this weekend. New West and Coquitlam.
New WestminsterSalmonbellies 4-0 5 5 Better not look past Thursday’s game against Langley before big Friday game on the Island.
Coquitlam Adanacs 4-1 6 6 Two wins against Langley and Nanaimo. Home to Victoria on Saturday.
Six Nations Chiefs 1-2 7 7 Both losses were close ones against Brampton. Casey Powell scored a couple (and looked good) in debut.
Kitchener Kodiaks 2-0 8 13 Toronto Rock backup goalie Mike Poulin looks great as he helps hold Barrie and Peterborough to a total of 11 goals.
Langley Thunder 2-2 9 10 Can they run with the big dogs? Coquitlam and New West coming up.
Brooklin Redmen 0-2 10 9 13-8 home loss to St Regis. Need to get on the winning track against Barrie.
Barrie Lakeshores 0-1 11 8 Close loss to Kitchener. Can’t be as good without Steenhuis.
Maple Ridge Burrards 1-4 12 11 Could only muster 3 goals against Coquitlam. Don’t play again until June 12.
Burnaby Lakers 0-4-1 13 12 No wins. Get another crack at Nanaimo this weekend.
Nanaimo Tibermen 0-4-1 14 14 See Burnaby.
