Colorado’s Pat Coyle headed for retirement after 12 years in the NLL

After eight seasons with the Toronto Rock, four with the Colorado Mammoth, 156 regular season games, 18 post-season match-ups, five NLL championships, three All-Star Game honours, and one Defensive Player of the Year title, Pat Coyle has probably earned some rest.
The 38-year old Orangeville native announced yesterday that he’ll be retiring from the National Lacrosse League. His stats stand at 28 goals, 105 assists, and 375 penalty minutes, second-most in league history. Coyle led the league in penalty minutes in 1998 and 2001.
“It has been a real honor to play with so many great teammates, to have the chance to compete with my brothers and I will miss that the most,” Coyle said. “I was lucky to have played most of my career with the two best teams in this league, Toronto and Colorado. I really want to thank the Mammoth and Steve Govett for all the support and faith they’ve showed in me over the past four years. I feel very blessed to have been able to play this great game for so long and I’m really going to miss it.”
In other NLL news, NLL Play Lacrosse Presented by Reebok will be in Denver this weekend at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, coinciding with the Dick’s Sporting Goods Colorado Cup. For detailed information and to check out the rest of the NLL Play Lacrosse Presented by Reebok schedule, head to NLL.com.
