NLL Girl of the Week: Ashley wins!
It’s over. It’s finally over.

Our National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week contest has reached its championship and you, the voters, for the most part, have picked our winner. And who may that be, you ask? Legit question. The answer, dear reader, is Ashley. Yeppers, it’s Ashley from the Chicago Shamrox who is the winner of our inaugural contest. It was an impressive battle to the end, and Ashley topped New York’s Crystal by a count of 6,155 to 4,138. A total of 10,293 votes were cast and yeah, it raised our eyebrows, too. How so? Look at it this way: All season long, the highest number of voters we had for an ENTIRE contest never exceeded 2,000. For the final night of voting in this here title match, we had about 4,000 votes cast over the course of one night.
The only thing we know for sure is that a bunch — and we mean a BUNCH — of votes came from a few computers, but there’s no rule against that so the title’s all Ashley’s. Big props to Crystal for being such a great sport during the entire tournament. She was in touch regularly with us here and as far as we can tell, was the only contestant all season long to interact with the fans over at WingsZone.com. As for the winner, Ashley’s obviously thrilled and if you wanna read her thoughts on winning — and her Playboy dreams — turn the page.
How can it not suck to win? Of course Ashley’s happy about the win and the benefits already are starting to roll in.

“Words can’t describe how excited not only I am, but all the Hot Rox ladies and Shamrox organization,” says Ashley. “To be acknowledged by the fans in the NLL worldwide as NLL Girl of the Year is an incredible honor, AND to be the first is always awesome.”
Ashley had a ton of fun with friends and family monitoring the campaign as it all went down, even joking that they had a headquarters set up much like that of someone else out of Illinois who is looking for votes: Barack Obama. She says the contest was monitored closely and she’s thankful for the friends and family who spread the word and encouraged voters.
By this point, though, we know ya’ll are wondering about the Playboy dreams that Ashley mentions on her Shamrox profile page and we’ve astutely pointed out here from time to time. Don’t worry, fan. We asked for an update on those dreams.
“Funny you should ask about Playboy,” says Ashley. “My director was recently contacted by a photographer that has worked for Playboy after he heard about some NLLInsider.com articles. Have to keep you posted on any possible ‘unveilings.’ Hey Hugh … if you’re reading this, feel free to contact me.”

So there ya go. The dreams are real and they’re still alive. How far reaching this here contest goes in helping Ashley achieve that dream remains to be seen, obviously. But at the very least, Ashley has lacrosse bragging rights in Chicago. She’s a gracious winner, though, so we know she won’t be taunting any of the Shamrox players about a championship she has and the players don’t. Granted, it’s two different worlds but then again, maybe that’ll be just the spark and motivation the Shamrox players need for the 2009 season.
Thus closes the NLL Girl of the Week competition for this season. Much thanks from this side of the monitor goes out to all the fans who voted through the season as well as all the participants who have been gracious in victory and defeat. The National Lacrosse League gets some huge props as well for picking our contestants on a week-to-week basis. If you’ve got any suggestions on how to improve this whole scene, click on the link below these words to drop me an e-mail and we’ll see if we can’t get it all sorted out in time for the 2009 season.
