Iannucci out, Accursi in for St. Regis
St. Regis loses 2008 National Lacrosse League (NLL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) Athan Iannucci due to a knee injury but picks up 2008 NLL Champion Mike Accursi in trade deal inked today.
“He’s been around with the past two NLL championship teams in Rochester and Buffalo, so we’re excited to have him come aboard,” added Troy Mitchell, St. Regis General Manager. ”He’s going to help in the locker room as well as on the floor. He’s great leader.”
Mike Accursi was a hold-out with Brooklin. Going the other way in a trade deal inked today is a 2012 first round selection and considerations.
Accursi joins several other NLL Buffalo Bandits on the St. Regis roster, including offensive stars John Tavares and Mark Steenhuis. The Bandits captured the NLL Champion’s Cup in 2008 with the three aforementioned combining for 53 points in three playoff games.
St. Regis is currently tied for first in the Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) league with Brampton. Both teams are 7-3 on the season. Peterborough, KW Kodiaks and Six Nations are all tied for third with four wins a piece. Brooklin and Barrie round out the MSL standings with three wins each.
“We don’t expect him back this season,” said Mitchell of Iannucci. “It didn’t look like much a play but then he came up hobbling. That was it, season over for him right there.”
Iannucci was signed from New Westminster of the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) after posting a record-setting 71 goals during the 2008 NLL regular season.
