Arizona Sting Dispersal Draft set for Monday

NLL Insider has learned from several sources that the anticipated Arizona Sting Dispersal Draft will happen this coming Monday afternoon, with Dan Dawson likely going to the expansion Boston Blazers with the first overall pick.
It’s expected several teams will try and land the number one spot via a trade with Boston, the Edmonton Rush likely being the most aggressive, but most insiders currently feel that the Blazers will hold onto the pick and land Dawson, one of the sport’s biggest impact players.
Dawson has appeared in the Champion’s Cup final three of the last four years, twice with Arizona and then this past season with Portland, and currently suits up for the Brampton Excelsiors in the MSL.
The news of the draft also means that the Sting franchise remains on the shelf after several months of being inactive and up for sale. And although nothing official has been announced by the NLL, it’s expected that unlike the original Dispersal Draft which sent former Sting players to new clubs for just a year’s rental, players moved during Monday’s draft will remain with the club that selects them.
In related news, it’s not expected any new franchises will be awarded by the league for the 2009 season, leaving Boston as the lone new franchise entering the league next year.
