CLA Power Rankings: Week 5

Although they are not dominating (two one goal victories last week) the New Westminster Salmonbellies keep winning and their very impressive 10-0 record have made it very easy to keep them a top the National rankings - especially when you combine that with Brampton’s two losses last week. This coming week will be pivotal for the defending Mann Cup winning Peterborough Lakers. With 3 games in 5 nights the Lakers hope to shake off their early season rust and show that they are once again a contender. Having Shawn Evans back in the lineup should help.
It looks like my reverse jinx is starting to work again. Last week I mentioned that the Six Nation’s Chiefs were falling out of the playoff race and how the Kitchener Kodiaks had lost 3 in a row. Both those squads earned victories over Brampton last week and the Chiefs have won 3 straight.
Who do I like (or not like) for this week? New West will taste defeat for the first time against Coquitlam on Saturday. Also watch for Peterborough to start their run.
| Team | Record | This Week | Last Week | comment |
| New WestminsterSalmonbellies | 10-0 | 1 | 1 | This is what I said last week: “A couple of close victories but still the only undefeated team in the nation.” Ditto. This time they defeated Coquitlam and Burnaby. |
| Coquitlam Adanacs | 7-2 | 2 | 4 | Lost to New West 10-8 but soundly beat Maple Ridge. Host New West on Saturday. |
| St. Regis Indians | 7-3 | 3 | 3 | Two wins last week against Barrie and Brooklin. Iannucci is out for the season but they picked up Accursi. Add that to Tavares, Steenhuis, Maddelena, and Dostie and this offence looks explosive. |
| Brampton Excelsiors | 7-3 | 4 | 2 | Easy win in Brooklin before a big stumble against Kitchener (their nemesis) and Six Nations. |
| Peterborough Lakers | 4-4 | 5 | 5 | Just one game last week. 12-9 win over Kitchener as Shawn Evans scores 7 points in his debut. This week is their chance to make a jump with 3 games on the schedule. |
| Victoria Shamrocks | 5-3 | 6 | 6 | Just one game last week as they handed Langley their 6th straight loss by a 8-7 margin. |
| Burnaby Lakers | 4-5-1 | 7 | 8 | Beat Maple Ridge 9-7 and lost to New West 8-7. It looks like the BC Lakers are getting their game in gear. |
| Kitchener Kodiaks | 4-4 | 8 | 10 | Beat Brampton (again) and lost to Peterborough. This is a hard working team. |
| Six Nations Chiefs | 4-7 | 9 | 13 | 3 wins in a row. Suddenly they are tied for third in wins. Home to Barrie this week. |
| Brooklin Redmen | 3-5 | 10 | 7 | Tough week. They were not close as they lost twice against Brampton and St. Regis. It doesn’t get easier as they face Peterborough and Brampton next. |
| Barrie Lakeshores | 3-6 | 11 | 9 | The Lakeshores are probably glad to be getting a break from Ontario’s Native teams as they lost three last week to the “Chiefs” and the “Indians”.Up next Barrie and Peterborough. |
| Maple Ridge Burrards | 2-7 | 12 | 12 | 2 losses last week. Overtime against Burnaby and 14-8 at Coquitlam. |
| Nanaimo Tibermen | 2-7-1 | 13 | 14 | Their only game of the week was 9-8 victory over Langley. |
| Langley Thunder | 2-7 | 14 | 11 | 6 straight losses, the last two against Victoria and Nanaimo. |
