Adam Mueller Retires, Ed Comeau Hired in New York

NLL Insider has learned that NLL Coach of the Year, Adam Mueller, has retired after a combined 19 year coaching career that has seen him serve as a pro head coach with the Philadelphia Wings, Minnesota Swarm and most recently, the New York Titans.
The specifics of Mueller’s decision will be made public shortly, with an expected press release from the franchise likely being sent out to media next week.
The reigning coach of the year also had a fairly impressive playing career spending eleven years in the MILL & NLL with the likes of the Detroit Turbos, Baltimore Thunder, Philadelphia Wings and Albany Attack.
Mueller’s decision was made a number of weeks back, which has allowed the team to interview for his position in recent weeks, with now former Rochester Knighthawks’ Head Coach, Ed Comeau, winning out from the pool of coaches that were being interviewed for the job. Comeau will likely serve as both the team’s Head Coach and GM, starting as early as Monday, when teams will be taking part in the expected Arizona Sting Dispersal Draft.
Sources close to the situation have told NLL Insider that the main coaches in the running for the Titans’ position were Comeau, Jeff Dowling, Blane Harrison and even yet to be re-signed Portland Head Coach and GM, Derek Keenan.
Sources have also told NLL Insider that Portland, who did not re-sign Assistant Coaches Jeremy Tallevi or Jeff McComb in an attempt to make their lacrosse operations more efficient, made an offer to Keenan a number of weeks back.
Many near the New York situation felt Keenan was the front runner until Comeau threw is hat into the mix.
NLL Insider contacted the Lumberjax’s Managing Partner, Angela Batinovich, this morning, who had no comment on their franchise’s current coaching situation, but did say a press release in regards to their bench would be released in coming days.
As for Rochester’s coaching situation, the rumour is that current Knighthawks’ defender, Regy Thorpe, will be made the Head Coach in coming weeks, while Minnesota Head Coach, Dewey Jacobs, has been mentioned by some as a possible GM in Rochester. Other names rumoured over the past week have included Jamie Batley, Paul Evans, Tim Soudan and ironically current New York assistant Paul Stewart, as possible coach replacements for Comeau, who accepted the Titans’ offer yesterday afternoon.
Thorpe has been rumoured for some time now to be connected to a future coaching position with the Rochester franchise. So even if the All-Star defender isn’t named the team’s Head Coach later this summer, it’s expected that he’ll likely serve on the team’s bench and potentially front office in some capacity.
Thorpe currently coaches the Six Nations Arrows (Jr. A), which is in part owned by recently announced new Rochester Knighthawks’ majority owner, Curt Styres. The Arrows are the defending Minto Cup champions and currently sit second overall in the OLA Jr. A standings, while NLL Insider has them ranked second in the country in the National Junior A Ranking.
