In the NLL, the Rush is on

By now we all know what’s up with the National Lacrosse League dispersal draft held earlier this week. None of the news shattered the earth we walk on, not even the news that the Arizona Sting is up for sale.

But just because the draft is finished doesn’t mean the work is. At least not for some, and you just knew that Bob Hamley’s name was gonna come up sooner rather than later. Dude’s been all over the telephones and e-mails again, adding 4 new names to the Edmonton Rush roster this week alone. That brings the number to 17 new players he’s added since taking over the team six games into last season.

So what’s going on?

From the draft alone, picking up Andy Secore reunites the duo from their days in Arizona and will bring some offense to the Rush, while adding Chris Seller brings a speedy defender on board.

“He has good speed and can play good defence,” Hamley said of Seller to The Edmonton Journal. “He’s a quality individual that will fit in well, and he understands what it takes to win in this league.”

Lauren Ward here at NLLInsider.com alread told you about the other deal on Monday that added Lindsay Plunkett and Matt Brown to the roster. On Tuesday, Hamley swung a deal with Minnesota to land defender Chris McKay in exchange for a draft pick.

If I’m Rush owner Bruce Urban, I ain’t worried about a thing. The Hammer’s living up to his nickname and as much noise as he’s making with all the wheeling and dealing, he’s more than proved he can coach. He learned how to win with a pair of championships in the National Lacrosse League as a player with the Buffalo Bandits before moving on as a coach to make legit title contenders out of the Albany Attack and the Arizona Sting. He even lit a fire under the Rush, winless at the time he was named coach, and had the team making a playoff push before sputtering down the stretch.

If dude can just have a team stay put for him, he just may win an NLL championship yet. And now that he’s apparently got some freedom in Edmonton to shape his roster as he wishes, who knows what we’re gonna see outta Edmonton in 2009?
