ILF 2008 U-19 World Games: Semis Set

The semis are now set for the International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) U-19 World Field Lacrosse Championships; on Thursday the USA will face England at 4:00pm PST and Canada draws the Iroquois Nationals at 7:15pm PST.

England and the Iroquois respectively advanced into the semis by winning cross-over games against Germany and Scotland of the Red Division. The USA and Canada had byes to the semi-finals for finishing one, two in round-robin play.

USA vs. England: These two met on Monday in their last round-robin game, and the USA ran away with a 24-4 win; England did not score in the first half. Led by offensive star Craig Dowd and defenseman John Lade, the Americans are the clear favorite to advance to Saturday’s 2:30pm PST final.

Canada vs. Iroquois: Tied 12-12 late in the fourth quarter of their earlier Saturday round-robin game, the Iroquois had several offensive opportunities before Canada earned possession and Jay Card scored on a diving wrap-around shot. The final ended 15-12 Canada. Either team could advance from this match.

vs. USA: Canada held a 14-7 third-quarter lead on the USA in their Sunday round-robin game, before the USA stormed back with an 8-1 fourth quarter and won 16-15 in overtime. The Iroquois also played the United States close in their opening Thursday round-robin game, tied 8-8 late in the second half and down just one early in the fourth.

The stage is definitely set for some great lacrosse and all eyes, including those of the USA coaches, will be on the Canada versus Iroquois game on Thursday night.
