NLL Girl of the Year: Ashley

ashleygreen.jpg

The news that Ashley is NLLInsider.com’s Girl of the Year isn’t anything new, but we got to thinking that some of you may have missed it. The contest wrapped up at a busy time of the year and even if you did catch it, we figured it wouldn’t suck to hear from her again.

So that’s what we did. We got hold of the Chicago Shamrox dancer again for some Q&A stuff and she was more than willing to provide some more insight and feedback into the process. It’s kinda cool, actually, the way a lot of Chicago sports fans were incorporated in the voting process to help support the National Lacrosse League. Of course, it helps when your connections include high-ranking cheering people from the Bulls, White Sox and Rush. No mention of Cubs fans, though, so it looks like there’s some work to do to find that love on the north side of Chi-town.

Anyway, here it is. As Paul Harvey might say, the rrrrrest of Ashley’s story:

So, you’re the NLL Girl of the Year. That’s got to be pretty exciting: Not only for me put for the entire HOT ROX dance team. It is truly an honor to be recognized as the first official NLL Girl of the Year.

Friends and family excited, too? VERY excited. My family and friends have been so completely supportive through out the season and winning Girl of the Year was huge bonus for all of my family and our the Rox fans.

We hear you had some help campaigning at other pro sports events like the White Sox and their dancers. What kind of connections helped you out? We have close ties to all the professional  teams in Chicago including the Bulls, White Sox, and Rush.  Using these connections to access sports fans in Chicago was HUGE!!!  We not only recruited fans at other sporting events but had city-wide coverage in the media.

Give us a quick background of your dancing/cheering background.  I have been dancing ever since I can remember.  I am captain and choreographer of my college dance team and dance with professional hip-hop crews locally.  But performing in front of Chitown’s best fans at  Rox games has been an experience that I will never forget.

What are your impressions of cheering for the Shamrox? Chicago and the NLL honestly have the best fans.  The Hot Rox dance director in just two short years put together one of Chicago’s hottest and top dance teams.  Sports fans have fallen in love with our sassy, edgy style. We keep them guessing and they never know what we are up to next.  The Shamrox truly make it an “entertainment” package making all fans feel like they are part of the game. And watching all the fans run to their seats to watch us perform is an incredible feeling.

NLL games are known for their intensity and excitement. What’s game night like in Chicago for Shamrox games?  Lacrosse is definitely the most high energy, hard hitting game I have ever danced for.  Our Shamrox boyz play their hearts out and the fans love it!!!  It can get pretty intense with several OT wins this past season. Our favorite highlight: the Candy Man getting thrown out on game-opening face off  fight. Let’s just say players shirts were rippin and the fans went nuts.

Learn much about lacrosse by dancing for the Shamrox? Did you know much about lacrosse before?  After auditions we all go thru a Lacrosse 101 training.    We still learned as the season went along. It is alot to take in with how fast-moving the game is.

Who’s your favorite Shamrox player to watch?  Ahhh,  all of them.  We have a great bunch of boyz playing for the Shamrox.  They have been so supportive of the Hot Rox dancers and we hear they brag around the league about how great their dance team is.  Gotta love the support!!!

Most memorable experience so far dancing for the Shamrox?  TOO many to remember. Being selected out of 117 women auditioning and performing in front of a celeb panel of judges at the finals, performing 9 times in 6 days, including being asked to audition for “America’s Got Talent.”  Incredible overtime games, winning the limbo contest in front of a stadium full of screaming fans. think that is even on YouTube.

Future goals with your dancing life? To keep dancing and hopefully dancing more as a back up dancer on tour.  But don’t worry I am auditioning for the Hot Rox again.

Gotta talk about Playboy again. You mentioned on your team profile page it’s a goal for you. Funny, all of us have goals like that on our bios!!!  Some of us want to be Victorias Secret lingerie models, Venus Swimwear models, Playboy Bunnies.  Playboy represent the ultimate in sexiness.  It would be a huge honor to be selected as a playmate. I am still thinking Hugh needs to step up and put together a “Girls of the NLL” issue!!!

And has anything more come of that?  Actually,  yes our director has been contacted by a photographer that works for Playboy. So you just never know if you might see me and or more of the Hot Rox ladies.

What’s next for the Shamrox in 2009? WOW!!  So much is in the works this summer.  Gotta keep checking back to see what we are up to. BUT, look for the Rox Boyz to be in the playoffs in 09. It’s gonna be our year all around!!
