New West up 2-0, Burnaby wins game one

The New Westminster Salmonbellies and Nanaimo Timbermen faced off again last night—on the heels of Saturday’s 16-7 New West win—and while the same team came out on top the Timbermen made them work a whole lot harder for it, with a final score of 11-8.
The Timbermen held the lead for the first two periods, up 6-5 at the end of the second however the third is when the Bellies hit the ground sprinting, snapping in six goals and limiting Nanaimo to two to gain the upper hand. Ben Davies had a pair of goals in the pivotal third period, while Jason Jones and Alex Turner scored two in the game as well. Sean Tessarolo (pictured) faced 43 Timbermen shots and turned away 35 including 10 in the third. After a quiet game to start the series, Nanaimo’s Cody Bremner cluttered up the score sheets with three goals and three assists. These teams meet again next Saturday.
In the other B.C. playoff game, the Burnaby Lakers doubled up on the Port Coquitlam Saints 8-4. The Burnaby defense held PoCo to 31 shots while Tom Wray provided shutout first and third periods, with all four of the Saints goals coming in the second. On the offensive side of things, Cam Appels and Brock Armour scored two each while Alex Gajic, Shaun Dhaliwal and Matt Miyashita all added one goal and two helpers. Trevor Evans had a pair of goals for Port Coquitlam.
Game two for these teams will be Tuesday, July 15, 8:00 PM PST at the PoCo Rec Centre.
