In last night’s Ontario Jr. A playoff action, the Orangeville Northmen topped the Brampton Excelsiors 7-5, the St. Catharines Athletics edged out the K-W Braves 7-6 in another tight game, and the Akwesasne Indians bumped the Burlington Chiefs 8-6. Each winning team takes a 2-0 advantage in their best of seven series, while Peterborough and Six Nations are tied 1-1 after an 11-10 Peterborough win Tuesday night.

A slight lead in the first and second period combined with three goals and three assists from Adam Jones gave the Northmen their second win of the series. Matt Macleod added two goals and two assists for the Northmen, and Jeff Ivey and Jeremy Noble added singles. Dylan Evans was responsible for three of the five Excelsiors goals. Nick Rose stopped 32 for the Northmen, and Tyler Carlson turned away 34 for Brampton. The two teams meet again Friday.

In what’s looking like a real barn burner series, the St. Catharines Athletics dug out a win with a Corey Small goal in the dying seconds of their second postseason match-up with the K-W Braves. The 19:55 game-winner was Small’s third goal on the night. Geoff McNulty added three assists. Jon Thomson led the Braves with two goals and one assist, while Scott Tinning added one and two and Evan Kirk made 42 saves. K-W will get their first home game of the series on Friday night.

A two-goal advantage in the second period was good enough to get Akwesasne their second win over Burlington, 8-6. Peter Jacobs knocked in two for the Indians, while Cody Jacobs had one goal and three helpers. Justin Wilson-Kirby and Kiel Matisz had two each for the Chiefs. Burlington will look to bounce back tonight in Burlington at the Central Arena at 7:00 PM EST.

In other action tonight, Peterborough will travel to Six Nations for an 8:00 PM start at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. Each team will be looking to take the lead in their series after Peterborough tied it up Tuesday night after going on an eight goal tear in the third period to earn the 11-10 win. Across the country on Tuesday the Port Coquitlam Saints evened up their series with the Burnaby Lakers with a 10-7 win. B.C. Jr. A playoff action resumes on Saturday with New West taking on Nanaimo in what could potentially be the final game in their five game series. New West is up 2-0.
