Burlington and Orangeville each go up 3-1 in playoffs

With a shut-out third period from Gary Muzzin and two markers from Kiel Matisz along with one each from Kevin Brownell and Jordan MacIntosh to close out the game, the Burlington Chiefs are now up 3-1 in their series against the Akwesasne Indians after an 11-8 win last night.

Matisz had three goals and one helper on the night, while Brownell had two and four and Muzzin blocked a total of 26 in his 53 minutes played. Cody Jacobs led the Indians with three goals. The Chiefs will have the opportunity to bounce the Indians from the playoffs tonight in game five at the Akwarnaro Arena, 6:00 PM EST.

The Orangeville Northmen are back to winning after bouncing back from Friday’s loss to top the Brampton Excelsiors 7-5 last night. With a 5-1 lead after holding the Excelsiors to one goal in the first and shutting them out in the second, the Northmen held off a third-period comeback to earn their third win of the series.

Adam Jones had two goals and two assists for the Northmen while Matt Macleod added two and one and the Orangeville D held the Excelsiors to 29 shots, 24 of which were turned away by Nick Rose. Tyler Carlson stopped 42 for the Excelsiors, and Jordan Coffey and J.J. Laforet had one goal and one assist each. Game five will be played Monday night, 8:00 PM EST at the Tony Rose.

Ontario Senior B

The Ontario Senior B semi-final between the Wellington Aces and Owen Sound Woodsmen is now tied 1-1 after the Owen Sound Woodsmen won game two last night by a score of 7-4.

In other Ontario Senior B action, the Brooklin Merchants have taken the early lead in their series with the Norwood Nitro with last night’s game one win, 7-6.
