Down two games to none in a best of five series with the mighty New Westminster Salmonbellies, the Nanaimo Timbermen needed something spectacular Saturday night in order to stay alive in the quarter-finals. Enter: Colton Clark (pictured) and Rob Pierson.
With Clark’s five goals and one assist, Ryan Forslund’s two and four and Cody Bremner’s five helpers, the Nanaimo Timbermen took the 10-8 decision. Trailing 5-2 after the first period, goaltender Pierson—who came into the game about halfway through the first—shut out the Salmonbellies in the second while his Timbermen scored four unanswered goals, two of those goals coming courtesy of Clark. New West came on strong in the third, with Pierson turning away 23 of 26 shots while the Timbermen again scored four to stretch their lead out. Pierson finished the game with 44 saves and just four goals allowed.
Ben Davies and Kevin Crowley scored two each for the Salmonbellies. These two teams are right back in action today, game four at 5:00 PM PST at the Nanaimo Ice Centre, while the Burnaby Lakers and PoCo Saints play their game three tonight at 7:00 PM PST in Burnaby. The series is tied 1-1.
