Six Nations, Orangeville and Burnaby through to semis

Even with two Ontario teams winning their best-of-sevens in the last two days, all eyes were probably on the situation in Burlington as the Chiefs and Indians took time out of their regularly scheduled series to replay the much-contested game two last night. On Tuesday night prior to game six—which the Burlington Chiefs won 10-7—a three-man panel of OLA executives overturned the original ruling (which was that the game two win should be awarded to the Chiefs because of Akwesasne’s use of two ineligible players). Though the exact reasoning for Akwesasne winning their appeal hasn’t been made clear, it does seem to have something to do with Burlington GM Glen Little not trying hard enough to be a mind reader. So last night, game two was replayed and Akwesasne walked away with the 9-4 win. With the series now tied 3-3, game seven will take place Friday night in Akwesasne.
The Orangeville Northmen finally disposed of the feisty Brampton Excelsiors last night, winning game six by a score of 6-4. Jeremy Noble had two goals and one assist while Matt McLeod had one and two and Nick Rose earned the win in net. Ryan McLelland had two goals and one assist for the Excelsiors.
On Tuesday night in Peterborough, Cody Jamieson and the Six Nations Arrows put an end to their back-and-forth series with the Lakers, winning game six 15-12. After jumping out to an 8-1 lead in the first, the Arrows held off an 11-goal comeback by the Lakers in the second and third, scoring seven of their own to stay ahead. Jamieson sealed up the win with six goals and seven assists, while Jacob Kicknosway-Loucks had two goals and three helpers and Holden Vyse had three and two.
Also on Tuesday night, the Burnaby Lakers finished off their best-of-five with the Port Coquitlam Saints, taking game four 11-6. Riley Loewen, Alex Gajic, Shaun Dhaliwal and Cam Appels each scored two for the Lakers, while the Burnaby D kept PoCo to just 29 shots. Scott Lowe earned the win in net, stopping 20 of the 23 shots he faced. Burnaby begins their semi-final series with the Coquitlam Adanacs on Friday, 8:00 PM PST. And yes, for anyone who can’t be there, that game marks the return of the Coquitlam Adanacs webcasts, starring Brad Challonder and Tyler Kwasnica.
