Two B.C. teams on brink of elimination, Ont. semis underway

In two semi-final games last night both the Coquitlam Adanacs and New Westminster Salmonbellies fell to 0-2 in their series, with Coquitlam losing 9-8 in OT to the Burnaby Lakers and New West falling 5-3 to the Victoria Shamrocks. In Ontario, both semi-final series got started with the Orangeville Northmen taking a 1-0 lead in their match-up thanks to a 10-9 OT win over the Akwesasne Indians, while the St. Catharines Athletics started off on the right foot against the Six Nations Arrows, winning 10-6.
Chase Williams thumped in three goals for the Burnaby Lakers in their win, with Riley Loewen and Greg Martinello adding two goals and one helper apiece, Shaun Dhaliwal scored one and assisted on three, and Alex Gajic helped out on four. It was Williams and Dhaliwal with the OT winners. At the other end of the floor, Scott Lowe withstood another first period shelling, stopping 18 of 20 in the first 20 minutes alone. Lowe went on to make 48 saves over the course of the game, including eight in overtime. Trevor Moore slipped in the lone overtime Adanac goal. Scott Defrancesco led the Adanacs otherwise with two goals and three helpers. Coquitlam will be fighting to stay in the semis at home on Wednesday night, 8:00 PM PST.

Michael Pires had three goals for the Shamrocks—including two in the third period to keep the game out of New West’s reach—and Cory conway had three assists. Kyle Belton accounted for two-thirds of the New West offense, scoring twice. Game three goes off on Saturday in Victoria at 4:00 PM PST.
It was a wild one in Orangeville last night, but eventually Matt McLeod’s fifth point of the game (3g 2a) won it for the Northmen in overtime 10-9. Adam Jones had three goals and two assists for the Northmen as well, while Nick Rose made 37 saves and assisted on two goals. Justin Delormier gave the Indians a good start to the game, making 23 saves and allowing zero goals. Delormier left the game partway through the first period with Joe Tallis stepping in to face 51 shots, turning away 41. Sam Bradman had two goals and two assists for Akwesasne, and Peter Jacobs had one and four. Game two is tonight in Orangeville, 8:00 PM EST.
Over in Six Nations, Andrew Potter and Corey Small put up five points apiece to lead the St. Catharines Athletics to their game one win 10-6. Zack Bowen took care of things in the other end, shutting down 35 of 41 shots. Four of the six shots that slipped through were courtesy of Cody Jamieson. Both Bowen and Angus Goodleaf posted shut-out second periods, and just three penalties were assessed all game—two to Six Nations and one to St. Catharines. Game two will take place Wednesday in St. Catharines, 8:00 PM EST.
