After losing two games Saturday night and going down 3-1 in their best-of-seven semi-final, the Six Nations Arrows needed a big game on Sunday to keep up both their morale and chances of advancing. A 7-1 win over the St. Catharines Athletics ought to cover it. Over in B.C. the Victoria Shamrocks barely got a breather, beating out the New Westminster Salmonbellies Saturday night to get to the finals, and then winning game one last night 5-4 over the Burnaby Lakers.

It was Angus Goodleaf posting a greedy game of 43 saves on 44 shots, holding the Athletics to one goal in the second period. Goodleaf received goal support from Randy Staats, Ben Reaume and Mitch Nanticoke with two each and Cody Jamieson with one. Zack Bowen posted a shut-out third period for St. Catharines but his 34 saves on 41 shots in the game wasn’t even close to being enough. Timothy Rowley had the lone marker. With the series now at 3-2 for St. Catharines the Athletics will hope for a better showing Wednesday while the Arrows will try to keep their momentum on track in St. Catharines at 8:00 PM EST for game six.

Across the country, Cayle Ratcliff got the scoring started in the first period of the first game of the B.C. finals and later scored the last goal of the game to win it for the Shamrocks 5-4 in the third period. The Shamrocks D held the Lakers to 31 shots, 27 of which were turned away by Matt Flindell including ten in a shut-out third period. Additional Victoria goals came from Reed MacPhail with two and Cory Conway with one. For Burnaby, Scott Lowe made 28 saves while Alex Gajic led offensively with one goal and three helpers. Game two will take place next Saturday in Burnaby.
