Miners take 2-1 series lead, Giourmetakis expected back for Game 4

Last night the Edmonton Miners dropped the Edmonton Eclipse 10-4 in Game 3 of their best-of-seven series, also taking a 2-1 series lead in what is turning out to be one of the most heated series in all of this summer’s Junior A post-season.
The Miners were led by Lucas Huyser-Wierenga’s three goals as well as Nate Schmidt’s four helpers, landing Schmidt at the top of Alberta’s playoff scoring race with now 23 points over six post-season games.
Game 3 saw the Eclipse without Co-Head Coach Dave Pym on the bench. Pym had been ejected from Game 2 in the series and was handed a one game suspension, which was served last night.
Game 2 was also witness to several fan ejections after things started getting a bit out of hand both on the floor and in the stands.
The Eclipse were also without team captain and leading goal scorer, Simon Giourmetakis, who left Game 2 with what is being described as an upper body injury. Giourmetakis missed last night’s game due to the injury, but NLL Insider confirmed with the Eclipse this morning that he should be back in the lineup tomorrow night for Game 4.
The series, like last years, which went a full seven games with the Miners winning a thrilling Game 7 9-8, has continued to produce one of the nastiest rivalries junior ball has right now. The two Edmonton based clubs have posted 175 total penalty minutes over their first three games of the series, including obviously Pym being ejected during Game 2.
Pym says however that his boys have far from packed it in, even though the Eclipse have been outscored 20-7 over the last two games in the series.
“This thing is not even remotely close to being over,” Pym told NLL Insider. ”We will get back to our relentless work ethic which brought us success during the year.”
The two teams start things back up tomorrow night for Game 4 at Servus Credit Union Place at 8PM MDT.
