Woodsmen win Presidents Cup, Rebels take Founders

While Jr. A and Sr. A are still slugging it out to see what teams will get their names engraved on the top prizes in the game, Jr. B and Sr. B have recently crowned their champions. Congratulations to the Owen Sound Woodsmen, who left no room for doubt in their 11-5 win over the Sherwood Park Outlaws Saturday to take home the Presidents Cup. Congratulations also go out to the dominant Six Nations Rebels, who followed up an undefeated regular season with their second Founders Cup in a row, sneaking by the Guelph Regals 8-7.

This summer the Owen Sound Woodsmen finished second in the western division of Ontario Sr. B lacrosse with a record of 8-6. In the playoffs they first swept the Mohawk Stars in a best of three and then wiped out the highly-ranked Wellington Aces in the semi-finals three games to one in a best-of-five before defeating the Brooklin Merchants for the Ontario crown. Captain Jamie Grimoldby led the league in assists and finished second overall in points. This is the first Presidents Cup win for the Owen Sound Woodsmen.

En route to defeating the Guelph Regals in the championship game, the Six Nations rebels first wiggled by Windsor, Elora, and Halton Hills to win Ontario honours. The long-shot Regals—who didn’t even qualify for the Ontario Jr. B playoffs—gave the Rebels all they could handle Sunday night but it wasn’t quite enough to topple the team that’s been cruising for a Founders repeat all season.
