The Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) recently named its award winners for the 2008 season. Playoff scoring leader Ilija Gajic won the ‘Bill Ellison Trophy’ for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the Playoffs, as he helped guide the New Westminster Salmonbellies to two 4-0 series sweeps of Victoria and Coquitlam, on route to the 2008 Mann Cup championships. The two-way star scored a number of clutch goals and finished with 34 playoff points in eight games.

Cam Sedgwick again took home league MVP honors after also capturing the ‘Commission Trophy’ in 2007. The Burnaby forward guided the Lakers to a third-place finish during the regular season, after the team started with just one win in six games without him. Sedgwick also led Burnaby in playoff scoring, finishing third in the league with 26 points in seven games.
