Mann Cup 2008 game two: live blog

So here’s how this is going to work: the updated score and time will appear at the very top following the jump. The most recent updates will also be closest to the top so nobody has to do any unnecessary scrolling. The time-stamp next to each update will indicate how much time remains in the period since this will all go much faster if I don’t have to do any math. That’s the extent of my instructions. Here we go!

4:54 - GOAL Ilija Gajic battles his way from an unlikely LB pick-up to New West’s fourth goal as the Salmonbellies are playing for a comeback and have started pulling the goalie for every O shift. Gajic’s goal unassisted.

13:36 Brampton’s Mike Kirk fingered for slashing, two minutes

13:59 - GOAL out of a big mess in Cosmo’s crease comes New West’s third, courtesy of Jordan Hall. Assists to Pete Morgan and Bobby Snider.

14:21 - GOAL Manning breaks up the middle, gets brushed back by Belly defenders but scoots in at the side to plunk Brampton score #6 overtop Roik

9:24 Mike Hominuck sitting two minutes for interference

13:36 - GOAL Ilija Gajic’s persistence finally pays off as he accepts a pass from Jamie Floris to bury New West’s second goal of the game and cut the Brampton lead in half

15:09 - GOAL Doyle fakes a shot on Roik’s left side, passes off to Aaron Wilson who sneaks it by Roik’s right to make it 4-1

17:47 - GOAL Doyle shrugs off a pair of Bellies defenders and shoots around the corner of big Dave Morgan to beat Roik for the 3-1 lead. Assists to Shattler and Manning.

1st Period

:36 Roik gets caught out of the crease chasing down a loose ball and with the Bellies defense playing desperate Cliff Smith ends up in the box, two minutes for holding

2:00 - GOAL Doyle rolls off a Belly’s back to launch a big cross-crease pass to Teat who buries Brampton’s second goal as well as his own

7:01 Brampton’s Phil Sanderson given two minutes for high-sticking

8:13 NW’s Kyle Ross given two minutes for holding and cluttering up Mike Hominuck’s spin move on a drive to the crease

12:16 - GOAL Brodie Merrill dances the ball up the floor and passes off to Dan Teat who beats Roik with a big shot from outside. Secondary assist to Cosmo.

17:30 - GOAL New West’s Cliff Smith with a line-drive from up the middle beats Cosmo five-hole for the 1-0 lead. Assist to Chris Gill, props to Ilijia Gajic for knocking off both Paul Dawson and Sandy Chapman to keep NW in possession.
