NLL Insider Top 50: Matt Roik #50

We’re literally only a few short months away from the rookies and free agents suiting up for most NLL team’s initial training camps.
So to help keep ya jacked and informed heading into the 2009 NLL season, NLL Insider will be counting down the 50 best ball players in the pro game.
We’ll be pickin’ guys based on what they threw-down in the pro game last year and also factor in a bit what they showed us this past summer too. Players that didn’t play in ‘08 or aren’t expected to see time in ‘09 weren’t included.
So with that said, here we go…
and as the title and pic suggest, San Jose Stealth tender Matt Roik falls into our 50 spot.
Many felt Roik had the greatest impact of any keeper last NLL season, but missed out on end-of-year hardware due to the fact that he only started gearing up after Chicago traded for him from Philly in the Brandon Miller deal.
His showing against the Toronto Rock in that late season thriller was maybe the best single game performance by any keeper in the league during the entire 2008 season. A performance that almost catapulted the Shamrox into the post-season after a miserable start to the year. Roik was definitely one of the biggest difference makers last winter.
The Stealth obviously felt Roik’s return to the top of the heap was legit enough to flip the switch on a blockbuster deal that sent Anthony Cosmo back East to Chicago. Think we can all agree, there aren’t too many keepers, no matter how many draft picks are attached, that are good enough to get swapped for Cosmo.
