How you can help commemorate Jamieson Kuhlmann

In a split second on a playing field in mid-May every lacrosse player and parent’s worst nightmare unfolded: after being caught on the receiving end of a routine check by an opposing player that could only ever be described as a freak and tragic accident, Jamieson Kuhlmann was rushed to a nearby hospital. He slipped into a coma and two days later the decision was made to take him off life support.

15 years-old, Jamieson left behind his midget Toronto Beaches teammates, classmates at the elite Merrill-run Hill Academy, and a family who in the face of the unthinkable not only extended their sympathy and compassion to the other player involved but also made the decision to donate Jamieson’s organs, benefiting over eight families. Now comes a chance for the city of Toronto and the lacrosse community to commemorate Jamieson in the spirit of the sport he loved.

In the month of October, community council will be considering a naming proposal put forth by councilor Paula Fletcher. If successful, one of the new fields near Cherry Beach will be named in Jamieson’s honour. The wheels may be in motion but the proposal can use all the support it can get, and to voice yours you can email teycc@toronto.ca or write to:
