A Busy Day For Junior

For a guy that’s not going to be able to play while he recouperates from an infection that nearly cost him his leg (or worse), John Grant Jr. has certainly had his name in the news a lot of late.

Between news of his joining Rochester’s assistant coaching ranks and the word earlier today that he would also be helping coach at Six Nations (and the awesome news that he’d be helping out with the dance team auditions), we nearly forgot that Junior was about to join the Blogosphere!

Well, that fateful day is here, folks, as the Rochester PR department just fired off his first post of what is sure to be a prolific career. Check it out below:

JOHN GRANT’S ADVENTURES ON LAND, SEA AND IN THE AIR

Hello lacrosse fans, I hope all is well out there.

First off, I would like to apologize for the length of this first blog, but there has been a lot going on since late August. I would like to thank my family and friends for all their support during the last few months. I would also like to extend a thank you to the fans who sent in well wishes to me while I was in the hospital. Their positive thoughts helped me through a very trying time. Last but not least, I would like to give a shout out to the new Knighthawks organization for sticking with me while I am recovering. They truly are a class act.

As for recovery, it is slowly gaining momentum. During my month-long stay in the hospital, I withered away to 195 lbs. Friends had joked that I invented a new diet, but the weight is coming back thanks to Wendy’s.

My road to recovery started in late October in Hawaii for the annual lacrosse tourney. I went with the Crease Monkeys as an assistant coach, and my IV fanny pack was all the rage. I got sun poisoned Day 1 so I didn’t really help the team do anything. We came up short in the finals against the MLL all star team from Wimmer. The two teams slogged through a soaked field, which was good because it kept (Brett) Queener from running all the fast breaks.

I was able to skydive while I was there, which I am sure my organization will not appreciate hearing. It was exhilarating and something I will do again in the future. There was a bit of a scare, however, as my chute didn’t fully open on time and I free fell an extra 1,500 feet. High marks went to Jeff Zywicki, who scored perfect tens for the 10 backward flips he pulled while exiting the plane.

The sea legs award on the trip went to Jordan Hall, who almost broke the ship record by puking six times on our deep sea fishing excursion. I got the silver by upchucking five times. We were unsuccessful catching any Marlin, but we fed the sea for any future fishermen.

Well, back to reality. Training camp is upon us. It will be painful for me to watch my teammates participate in the drills while I am on the sidelines, until the sprints happen. Down and back boys!!!

You stay classy,
Jr.
