Dawson Signs with Boston Blazers

Dan Dawson, who was selected in the NLL Dispersal Draft in June, has officially signed with the Boston Blazers, according to a release by the team.

The 6-foot-5, 225-pound forward scored 38 goals and had 48 assists a year ago for the Portland LumberJax, helping lead the Western Division champions to the Champions Cup final, where they fell to the Buffalo Bandits. The signing is still pending league approval.

BOSTON (November, 14, 2008) – The Boston Blazers professional indoor lacrosse franchise today announced the signing of Dan Dawson, one of the top scorers and most dynamic players in the National Lacrosse League (NLL).

Dawson, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound forward, led his team to the NLL Champion’s Cup finals during three of the past four seasons. A seven-year veteran and two-time First Team All-Pro, Dawson scored 38 goals and added 43 assists to lead the Portland LumberJax to the NLL’s Western Division title in 2008. The Blazers obtained Dawson’s rights in the June 30 NLL dispersal draft.

The transaction is currently pending league approval.

“Dan Dawson is one of the most impactful and respected players in the game,” said Blazers head coach and general manager Tom Ryan. “His accomplishments on the floor are matched by his commitment to growing the sport throughout the community. There is no better person to build a franchise around.”

“Boston is a great sports town with some of the most passionate sports fans in the country,” said Dawson. “The Blazers have assembled a roster of young, tough and competitive players, so I’m really looking forward to getting together with the team at training camp and preparing for this season.”

The expansion Blazers will make their NLL debut on January 10, 2009 at New York before playing their historic home opener on January 17 at the TD Banknorth Garden against the New York Titans.
