Although rumours of unsigned San Jose Stealth first round picks Paul Rabil and Kevin Huntley not being able to commit to the team have heated up over the past week, Stealth President and GM Johnny Mouradian tells NLL Insider that ongoing negotiations with the two are still underway and the Stealth are currently not negotiating with any teams in regards to a deal for either player.

“We’re not even thinking about a trade,” said Mouradian. “After several conversations with both of them, we’re confident a deal between each player can be worked out and we will do whatever we can as a franchise to accommodate both Paul and Kevin.”

“We understand that this is a big commitment for both of them,” added Mouradian, who says the team is looking at several options in order to have both players in a Stealth sweater this winter, as well as having them work within the San Jose community through various grass roots programs planned for the upcoming season.

The Stealth are also confident that no matter how many games each player can commit to as eastern fly-ins, Rabil and Huntley will transition to the indoor game effectively. “Obviously practice and working on their game is paramount,” said Mouradian, “but we’re confident that both players were two of the best available players in this year’s draft and based on what we’ve seen and know of them already, we feel both will do well in the NLL.”

Mouradian is extremely optimistic that deals with both players will be reached and says the franchise is excited at the prospect of having both players in their lineup in 2009.

The San Jose GM also isn’t too worried about not having both players in the city full-time, or even missing an undetermined amount of games for the Stealth this year. “There are other players in this league that miss time due to work commitments as well,” said Mouradian. “That’s basically what we’re looking at here. I don’t see it being an issue and it’s something pretty much every team in the league has to deal with at some point in their season too.”

Stay tuned to NLL Insider for more on the status of both Paul Rabil and Kevin Huntley heading into the upcoming NLL season.
