In what is really turning into a pretty lengthy list of ball players either retiring or taking a year off this season, Philadelphia Wings transitional stud John Christmas has added his name to the mix as well.

The Wings are reporting that Christmas will be taking the winter off in order to further establish LEAPS (Lacrosse, Education, Attitude, Perseverance, Success), a non-profit program designed to educate kids in inner city Philadelphia about the game of lacrosse and the importance of positive thinking.

“In the past six months I have put a lot of work into getting the LEAPS program off the ground,” said the former Virginia middie. ”It is something that I want to be able to give my full attention so we can reach as many kids as possible in Philadelphia and really make a difference.”

Christmas plans on only taking a single season off and returning to the league in 2010.
