An NLL Christmas wish list

It’s Christmas Day and if you’ve got little ankle-biters running around your house, you were up before the sun today.

That’s all part of the Christmas magic, so I’m told. One sure way to ruin that magic is to forget the batteries for the toys you got the little kids, so hopefully that part of the deal didn’t slip your mind this season. Remember that scene when you were a kid? There’s no pain greater on Christmas than having to wait a full day to get batteries for your new Star Wars spaceship, especially when Mom and Dad refuse to go get them at the only convenience store open on Christmas and it’s charging $8 for each battery. OK … enough on that tangent. Let’s get down to the real business of what this holiday is all about and hand out some gifts to those in the world of lacrosse. No batteries required.

To Brian Langtry: Some sanity. Oh wait, check that. Your approach is what we love and keeps us in stitches. So keep rollin’ the way you roll. If ya don’t, you know you fear Dungeonmaster69 callin’ you out on a message board from the computer in his mother’s basement.

To John Grant Jr.: A return to health so fans around the National Lacrosse League can witness the mad skill again.

To the Chicago Shamrox: Since you’ve technically just “suspended operations,” here’s hoping we’ll see you back in the NLL again real soon.

To Athan Iannucci: Swift healing on the bum knee so we can all see that smooth work of yours on the crease again.

To the Buffalo Bandits: Endless nights of that crazy scene in the HSBC. The place absolutely rocks when the Bandits are rollin’.

To Portland LumberJax owner Angela Batinovich and husband Adam Bysouth: Sound health and fun times with new daughter Avery.

To Knighthawks forward Gary Gait: The re-discovery of your game as you add to your legend.

To Paul Rabil and the San Jose Stealth: A quick learning curve to the indoor game. Your presence will do a lot to encourage future NCAA superstars to learn the box game and that’ll only help the game grow.

To Ginny Capicchioni: Another shot in the NLL.

To the Boston Blazers and Dan Dawson: A fantastic debut season so we can welcome a new, re-vitalized fan base to the NLL and indoor lacrosse.

To Tracey Kelusky: Watch the dome, kid. It’s no fun having you sidelined with concussions so hopefully the injuries are behind you.

To Gavin Prout and the Colorado Mammoth: Packed Pepsi Center crowds as lacrosse continues to thrive a mile above the rest of us.

To Scott Evans of the Knighthawks: Quick recovery from the blown knee. It’s gotta be frustrating.

To Bob Hamley and the Edmonton Rush: Victories, and plenty of them. With so many off-season moves and even moves during the season last year, I for one can barely wait to see what’s gonna unfold up there.

To Brett Queener: Sure, he went to my high school’s biggest lacrosse rival, but here’s hoping you and your antics and talent and enthusiasm help endear Boston to the box. If you can help do that, I’ll forget all those times your Mustangs beat my Canandaigua Academy Braves in high school.

To the Minnesota Swarm: Continued success on the momentum you’ve built the last season or two. Oh, and please keep Eric Perkins off the floor.

To Ed Comeau and the New York Titans: Personally, I can barely wait to see your game. Loved it last season when the helter skelter game broke loose. There’s a stable of runners in New York and it’s a transition game that’s about as exciting as it gets in the box. Good luck to you, too, RPM. Beast mode!

To the Toronto Rock: A return to greatness. It’s been a down couple of seasons, but with Whipper still in cage and a bunch of new faces to kick-start that transition game, here’s hoping the Rock are back on top of things.

To the staff at IL: Continued success as we chronicle the world of lax. It’s a game I love in every aspect and the opportunity you’ve given me to be a part of it at this level is something I am thankful for every single day. I’m surrounded by talent, ambition and genuine passion. It doesn’t get any better than that.

To the fans: Wins for your team. I know logistically that doesn’t make sense since everyone can’t win. But it’s your great support of the game that makes it all possible. So your support deserves as many victories as possible. Keep up the great work, fans. When this league grows into the monster it’s gonna be some day, you’ll all be able to say “I remember the Spandex days.”

To instant replay in the NLL: Success in setting the record straight.

To the National Lacrosse League: Continued momentum. It’s not easy running a pro lacrosse league, especially for a sport that’s so fickle in markets around North America. The fellas there work hard to bring us the best game possible, so here’s hoping their work pays off and the NLL soon replaces the NBA as a major sport.

To Tom Borrelli: Peace.
